Raining Blood chapter 3 by ~FreePassion:iconFreePassion:

Chapter 3
How could she have not seen it earlier? He fit every description her people described. Fiery red eyes with messy black hair and a scar on his cheek, a beauty with deadly flaws; that’s what they had said.
“He makes the heavens rain blood and his sword sings a song of death, warning the prey, urging the prey to fight before dying,” the chief had said, telling the town the scary story, it was supposed to be a story, not a description of something real. Her heart began beating loudly again; she was afraid to hear a song of death and to see her own blood rain down.
She looked past his face into the forest beyond them. A man with a gun stood there, aiming at the red eyes demon. He was a sign of hope; a sign of escape and rescue. Distract the demon, her mind screamed; distract the demon so the man can kill him. The man slowly stepped forward and cocked the gun back. A slight sound was heard and she frantically met eyes with the demon hoping he didn’t hear it. But his eyes told her, he did.
-
As he crouched in front of the girl, he felt the presence of another human. He heard the sound of the gun cock back and locked eyes with the green eyes that told him everything. He grabbed his sword from the ground and stabbed the man in the stomach while still facing the girl. The girl’s eyes widened and he smiled as he felt the body slip off his sword. He felt it patter on him, the blood had rained and his sword had sung its song. He turned around and looked at the man who lay dead. He looked at the gun that had fallen from the man’s hand and picked it up.
“Did you think a mere human could kill me with this toy?” he said turning back around to face the girl. She shook her head ‘no,’ she was lying to him again. Anger surged through his body and he threw the gun to her. She caught it and looked up at him.
“Isn’t this what you wanted? Go ahead, try to kill me or perhaps I should kill you first.” He smirked as her hand shook around the gun. He stood there waiting for the girl to shoot.
“Aim for the heart,” he said pointing to where his heart is.
- -
The demon wanted her to shoot him. He had a price on his head and bounties that searched for him left and right. He killed every single one of them and here he was telling her, a normal girl, to kill him! Why couldn’t he just have let one of them kill him? Her hands shook as she wrapped her hand around the gun.
“Aim for the heart,” she heard him say. She took a deep breath steadying her pounding heart and shaking hand. She lifted the gun and aimed at his heart. Cold sweat ran down the sides of her face. She couldn’t kill, even if he was a demon.
“Too late,” he smirked and lifted his sword into the air, preparing to strike down. She didn’t want to die this way; how could she die when she could kill him before he could kill her? Her finger felt heavy as she pulled the trigger, the sound of the gunshot ringing throughout the forest.
- -
“Too late,” he said, urging her to kill him, she was wasting his time. He felt the bullet tear through his skin and through his already dead heart. The bullet did nothing. No pain was felt at all, only the feeling of tearing. He laughed at the thought of feeling pain, a long gone memory from centuries ago.
- -
She had just fired at this demon’s heart and he was laughing? What was this, a sick game of mockery? She watched as he laughed. He actually looked like a normal human, but when he looked at her with his red eyes, she knew better than to think that. She watched him point to his heart and stop laughing putting his stoic facial expression back on.
“I don’t quite know why demons have hearts, because we are not meant to feel emotion,” he said. She saw the slightest sorrow in his eyes but it was buried as soon as it had surfaced. “They are just a mere useless thing meant to be broken,” he now whispered. She shivered as she felt his words ring in her head. He turned away and walked a couple of steps; she stood up with hesitation before slowly following behind. He turned back around and gave her a glare.
“Perhaps you are not her, but listen carefully, foolish human. If you ever plan on escaping, learn how to kill a demon first.”
And he dropped the bloodied bullet from his heart onto the ground.
